Richard Leigh

Richard Leigh is a consulting engineer and physicist, specializing in the technical and financial modeling of energy systems. He has developed electric utility and energy system simulation software; investigated the technical and economic aspects of cogeneration, district heating, energy storage and solar energy systems; developed electric utility load analysis techniques; and examined the economic and technical aspects of non-dispatchable technologies operating as part of an electric utility system. He also has experience in strategic planning, specifically with respect to standards, gained in several years helping the IEEE adapt to the fast-paced world of the new information order; he is the co-author of several documents key to reorienting that institution.

He is currently directing the efforts of a team of engineers administering a program to provide grants for building energy efficiency improvements.

Earlier in his career, working at Brookhaven National Laboratory, Dr. Leigh developed novel techniques in heat transfer for refrigeration and solar collectors and holds a patent related to this work.

Dr. Leigh holds an A.B. from Oberlin College and a Ph. D. in Physics from Columbia University, and is a licensed Professional Engineer in New York State.
